Background: Like several other famous X-Wing pilots, Biggs Darklighter hailed from the desert planet of Tatooine. Biggs eventually left Tatooine and joined the Academy, getting an assignment to the merchant ship Rand Ecliptic with his new friend, "Hobbie" Klivian. However, the two soon became Rebel sympathizers and deserted. Biggs joined the Rebel Alliance and was one of the best X-Wing pilots around. When the Death Star learned of the existance of a Rebel base on Yavin, Biggs was called to fight. After a short reunion with boyhood friend Luke Skywalker, the two took to the skies as part of Red Squadron. Biggs was instrumental in keeping the TIEs off of Luke, letting the younger pilot fire the shot that destroyed the first Death Star. Unfortunately, Biggs was shot down by Darth Vader while flying in the Trench, though his heroism lives on.
